The Good: Why GTA 6 could be worth the wait

1. Vice City is back, and bigger than ever

Rockstar is bringing gamers back to Vice City, but this isn’t simply a remastered version of the classic location.

GTA VI takes place in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, with Vice City at the center of the experience.

The trailers showcase beaches, highways, nightlife, small towns, and a world full of personality. Rockstar is clearly aiming to build something that feels alive beyond the main storyline.

For longtime GTA fans, returning to Vice City in a modern setting could be one of the biggest selling points.

2. A different kind of GTA story

This time, the story follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, two characters whose relationship becomes central to the game’s criminal storyline.

After a robbery goes wrong, the pair find themselves caught in a larger conspiracy.

It’s a different approach to storytelling that could bring more emotional depth and meaningful character development to the franchise.

3. The visuals and presentation look incredible

Rockstar released an extended look at GTA VI in August 2026, followed by a new launch trailer on October 15.

The environments, lighting, character detail, and overall presentation are impressive.

Music is also playing a major role. Electronic duo Justice created the original score, and the latest trailer features their new single, “Flower in a Hurricane.”

The visual presentation is promising, although we’ll need final retail gameplay and independent testing before drawing conclusions about performance.

4. PlayStation and Xbox players both get access

GTA VI isn’t exclusive to PlayStation.

Both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners can play on launch day. PlayStation is advertising additional platform-specific features, including DualSense support and a PS5 Pro Enhanced version.

Those features could be appealing, but gamers should avoid assuming that promotional labels prove one console delivers a better experience in every situation.

The Bad: Some decisions gamers may not love

1. The price is higher than many gamers expected

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room.

The base game costs $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99.

That’s a significant purchase, especially for someone who has already invested hundreds of dollars in a gaming console.

The Ultimate Edition includes additional vehicles, weapons, customization options, and bonuses connected to the story.

But is it worth another $20?

That depends on how much you value the extras. The Standard Edition still includes the core game, and Rockstar says Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate upgrade separately later.

You don’t have to buy the most expensive edition to experience GTA VI.

2. Physical copies don’t actually include a disc

This might be one of the biggest disappointments for physical-game collectors.

According to Rockstar, the boxed version of GTA VI comes with a digital download code rather than a physical game disc.

That means purchasing a box doesn’t eliminate the need to download the game.

It also changes what consumers traditionally expect from physical ownership, including the ability to lend, resell, or preserve a playable disc.

If you prefer physical games, this is something to seriously consider before ordering.

3. Multiple delays have tested everyone’s patience

GTA VI was originally targeting fall 2025.

That eventually became May 2026 before Rockstar pushed the release to November 19, 2026.

Rockstar says the additional development time is intended to provide the level of polish players expect.

That’s understandable, but it doesn’t erase the frustration of waiting.

With expectations this high, the finished game will have a lot to prove.

4. Watch the GTA+ subscription details

Qualifying digital purchases include a free month of GTA+, while eligible purchases before November 20 also include the Vintage Vice City Pack.

However, the US PlayStation Store specifically states that the GTA+ subscription auto-renews.

If you’re claiming that bonus, review the subscription’s renewal terms and cancellation options before it becomes a recurring expense.

5. The game is intended for mature audiences

The ESRB has rated GTA VI M for Mature 17+.

Its rating includes violence, adult sexual content, drug and alcohol references, strong language, and an in-game purchase indicator.

If you’re purchasing the game for a younger player, make sure you understand the content and your console’s parental-control settings.

The Unknowns: What Rockstar still needs to answer

Will GTA VI run at 60 FPS?

One of the biggest questions is how the game will perform across different consoles.

The trailers look impressive, but gamers want to know what the final experience will be like.

Will there be multiple graphics modes? What frame rates can players expect? How will the Xbox Series S version compare with the PS5 and Series X?

Until final performance details or independent tests are available, we shouldn’t treat unverified frame-rate claims as facts.

How much storage will it require?

With a world this ambitious, storage space is understandably a concern.

But gamers should be careful with unofficial download-size leaks circulating online.

Check your console storefront for the actual required space before pre-loading begins November 12.

When is GTA VI coming to PC?

At launch, GTA VI is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rockstar has not announced an official PC release date.

PC gamers may eventually have another option, but there is no confirmed schedule to rely on right now.

What about GTA Online?

This is another major question.

Rockstar currently describes GTA VI as a single-player experience, and the PlayStation listing identifies it as a one-player game with offline play support.

That doesn’t establish the timing of any future GTA VI multiplayer experience.

Gamers should not assume a new GTA Online mode, cross-play, or shared progression will be available on launch day without a separate announcement.

Standard vs. Ultimate Edition: Which should you buy?

Grand Theft Auto VI Standard Edition cover artSTANDARD EDITION$79.99

This is the best starting point for gamers who primarily want to experience Jason and Lucia’s story, explore Leonida, and discover what Rockstar has built.

Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition cover artULTIMATE EDITION$99.99

This includes the base game and additional vehicles, weapons, customization items, and other story-related bonuses.

For gamers who care deeply about collecting exclusive content, the Ultimate Edition may be appealing.

But our recommendation is simple: don’t spend the extra money unless you actually want the included items.

And remember, Rockstar’s announced Vintage Vice City Pack offer applies to eligible purchases made before November 20. You may want to place your order before that date if the bonus matters to you, but it isn’t a reason on its own to pay for an edition you don’t need.

Should you pre-order GTA 6?

Pre-ordering does have a few practical benefits. It lets you pre-load the game starting November 12, so you can start playing as soon as it unlocks instead of waiting on a large download on launch day. Eligible orders made before November 20 also receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.

But there’s no shortage of copies to worry about. Digital editions can’t sell out, and since the boxed version contains a download code rather than a disc, there’s no collector’s advantage in rushing to secure a physical copy either.

If you’re confident GTA VI is a day-one purchase, pre-ordering the Standard Edition is a reasonable move. If you want to see how the game performs on your console first—especially on Xbox Series S—waiting for launch-day impressions costs you very little.

Before you buy: The FGO checklist

  • Pick your edition carefully. The Standard Edition gets you the full story, and you can upgrade to Ultimate later.
  • Know what’s in the box. Physical copies include a download code, not a disc.
  • Clear some space. Check your console storefront for the official required storage before pre-loading begins November 12.
  • Set a reminder for GTA+. The free month can auto-renew, so review the renewal terms before it starts charging you.
  • Check the rating. GTA VI is rated M for Mature 17+. Set up parental controls if a younger player will have access.
  • Don’t count on online play yet. GTA VI is currently described as a single-player experience.
  • PC players, sit tight. There is no confirmed PC release date.

The FGO verdict

GTA VI has all the ingredients of a generation-defining release: a modern return to Vice City, a story built around two leads, and a presentation that already looks a step ahead of most of what’s out there.

But excitement shouldn’t replace informed decisions. The higher price, the disc-free physical edition, the auto-renewing subscription bonus, and the open questions around performance and multiplayer are all worth weighing before you hit buy.

Our advice: start with the Standard Edition, keep an eye on the November 20 bonus deadline, and wait for real launch-day performance details before treating any rumor as fact.

Vice City is almost back. Just make sure you go in knowing exactly what you’re paying for.

FGO will update this guide as Rockstar shares more details about performance, storage requirements, PC, and online play.
